How to get to Soalheira Portugal by train
There are a couple of ways to travel to Soalheira from Lisbon, but the best is with the Alfa Pendular high-speed train. This train is modern and offers onboard amenities including WiFi & power sockets at every seat. The Alfa Pendular trains run several times a day between Lisbon and Porto. Tickets can be purchased online and are usually less than 10 euros one way.
Alternatively, you can take the Regional train which takes a bit longer but is much cheaper. The Regional train will also stop at Porto and you can catch a ferry to see the Douro Valley from the water. If you have a Eurail Pass then you can use it on the Ferry too and save even more money.
Once you arrive in Porto, take a walking tour or just explore on your own. Visit the historical centre and make sure you try a Pasteis de Nata (local custard pastry) in one of the many cafes. Then head up the Douro River to visit the Port cellars. The best time to visit is during the harvest season in September and October.
Another option is to head on a day trip from Lisbon to the beautiful town of Sintra. There are many palaces and gardens to visit as well as the ancient town walls. Or you could head to Obidos and walk the ancient castle walls for amazing views.
