How to get to Senhora das Neves Portugal by train
Getting around Portugal’s many tourist hotspots by train is a convenient and scenic option. While the country’s impressive rail network doesn’t reach everywhere, journeys are usually comfortable and affordable.
Renting a car will allow you to explore the area at your own pace and bypass the constraints of public-transport schedules, although driving can prove tricky in Portugal’s small walled towns where roads may taper to donkey-cart size before you know it and fiendish one-way systems will force you out of your way. Car-rental outfits are abundant in the major cities and at Lisbon and Porto international airports.
Bus services are frequent and affordable, though service quality varies widely. Carreiras (marked CR) are slow, stopping at every crossroad, while expressos and rapidas are faster and more comfortable but often have limited capacity in summer and may require booking in advance. For more information about timetables, fares and ticketing, visit a central station or turismo office.
The most convenient station for traveling to Senhora das Neves is Viana do Castelo, located in the heart of the city. From here, a number of buses (including the #501) run south to the city center via Foz do Duoro, while the #506 and 508 services travel east to Matosinhos and the Mar shopping mall. Alternatively, the metro system is available at Aliados station.
