1. Visit the Church of Nossa Senhora das Misericordias
The Church of Nossa Senhora das Misericordias was rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake. It contains a 14th-century tomb of the Knight Templar Gomes Martins Silvestre made in marble from nearby Estremoz and a 19th-century pillory or pelourinho, also of Estremoz.
The church’s apse has semicircular steps with Baroque portals under square bell towers and gallery-like extensions. The single nave has a crossing with twisted columns. Its ceiling is vaulted with neoclassical azulejos.
