You can catch a direct train from Lisbon to Braga or opt for a train with a change in Porto (which adds anywhere from a 10-minute stopover to over an hour). The most popular and efficient train route to get to Meinedo from Portugal is to travel on the Douro Line (Linha do Douro) from Porto to Regua. The train ride itself is beautiful and will allow you to enjoy the landscapes of the Portuguese countryside in comfort. You’ll pass through 20 tunnels and 30 bridges along the way. Be sure to stop in Pinhao on the way to sample some of the world famous port wines!
Tickets for the Douro Line can be purchased online in advance through Comboios de Portugal or a third-party site called Omio. Prices are cheapest when bought a week or more in advance so it’s worth checking both sites to see what deals they’re offering.
There is also a direct bus service from Porto – Sao Bento to Meinedo operated by Rodonorte that departs hourly and costs around €3. The trip takes about 58 minutes and the journey can be booked at Omio. It’s best to book in advance to secure your seat as buses fill up quickly.
