How to get to Sao Pedro do Estoril Portugal by train
It’s easy and cheap to travel from Lisbon Airport to the beaches of Estoril. The journey takes around 1h30min and costs less than EUR7 per person, which is significantly cheaper than hiring a pre-booked transfer. You can catch both the metro and regional train from the arrivals lounge at the airport.
The beach is just a short walk from the train station and there’s a large car park above it with plenty of places to eat. The beach is small but backed by cliffs and rock pools which make it ideal for kids. The water is calm and warm, although the bottom of the sea can be rocky which may hurt the feet of little ones.
A great way to explore the area is by bike, but it’s also possible to get to most of the beaches and attractions within walking distance. The railways are very frequent and it’s possible to buy a Lisboa Card from a machine or the counter, which will give you unlimited travel across all public transport services in the city for 24 or 48 hours.
With its outstanding tourist facilities and Portuguese charm, Estoril is a superb holiday destination. It has a reputation for exclusivity as it was the hideaway of Europe’s exiled royalty, and later the setting for Ian Fleming’s Casino Royal in the 1970s. Today it’s a stylish and sophisticated resort town with fine dining restaurants, world-class golf courses and the largest casino of its type in the country.
