Located north of Aberystwyth in Ceredigion, Borth offers many things to do from exploring the Ynyslas sand dunes to visiting the Animalarium. This hidden gem also boasts a fantastic beach and many large caravan parks with clubhouse entertainment.
With shallow waters and three long miles of soft golden sand, the blue flag award winning Borth beach is popular with families. Located close to cafes, restaurants and local services it is the perfect place to unwind.
Borth Beach
The village of Borth is famous for its Blue Flag beach and sand dunes and attracts thousands of visitors every summer. Families with children will find safe waters here and the shingle shoreline is popular with dogs. At low tide gnarled tree stumps, linked in local legend to the drowned kingdom of Cantre’r Gwaelod, are revealed on the beach.
The cliff tops provide dramatic sea views and offer stunning walking opportunities. Ceredigion’s coastal path runs through the village and is a favourite walk for hikers. The lively university town of Aberystwyth is less than 15 minutes away.
The village has an abundance of gift shops, delis and cafes as well as pubs and fish and chip shops. A small supermarket and chemist are available. The village also has a sports ground and a tourist information centre. It hosts a carnival every summer.
The Animalarium
Located north of Aberystwyth in Ceredigion, Borth is an old fishing hamlet with one of Wales longest beaches. It is a popular family beach and attracts watersports enthusiasts too with its shallow waters and is also home to a Camera Obscura, cliff railway and evocative castle ruins.
The village has all the amenities you may need from gift and nic-nac shops to themed cafes, Indian restaurants and pubs. It is also an excellent base for walks and is a gateway to the famous Ynyslas sand dunes which are used by windsurfing, surfing and kiteboarding experts.
Visit the Animalarium, a rapidly expanding Zoo that offers sanctuary to unwanted Zoo animals and exotic pets. Children will enjoy the Plains Exhibit which has a number of interactive activities including a cheetah encounter. You can also take a close up look at the sharks at the Oceans Gallery and even touch a stingray. A truly memorable experience.
Corris Craft Centre
The Corris Craft Centre is the starting point for a range of unique visitor attractions. These include the award winning King Arthur’s Labyrinth underground storytelling adventure and the Welsh Legends Maze (winner of Trip Advisor’s Traveller’s Choice 2022).
The craft centre offers a range of hands on fun activities from pottery painting to candle dipping and even woodworking! The centre houses 9 individual craft workshops where designer-makers are at work on most days. They create an amazing collection of items including traditional and personalised wooden toys, celtic inspired jewellery designs, handmade chocolates, truffles and fudge, hand carved candles, glass sculptures and herbal lotions and remedies.
During your visit why not sit back and relax in the Y Crochan Café and enjoy a fabulous all day menu which uses locally sourced ingredients. The burgers and irresistible rarebit are especially popular with children and adults alike. The cosy cafe also boasts beautiful views of the Mach Loop; a low flying training area for fast aircraft.
The Heritage Coast
The Heritage Coast is a beautiful stretch of coastline that attracts nature lovers with its wide variety of wildlife and scenery. The cliffs are crossed by coastal walks with many places offering exceptional views over the rippling blue waters.
The beachfront village of Borth is a traditional seaside resort with vintage charm. Its many attractions include a cliff railway, the world’s largest Camera Obscura and evocative castle ruins.
This seaside town also boasts one of Ceredigion’s longest beaches which is ideal for calming beach walks or learning a new watersport! The sandy beach is shallow gradient and is particularly popular with families.
Borth is within easy reach of Aberystwyth where you will find many large department stores, quirky little gift shops and a vibrant arts centre. The village is also well placed for scenic train trips to Aberdovey, Barmouth and Harlech or south to Aberaeron, New Quay and Cardigan.
