Lincoln Ware never fathomed his hometown would one day dedicate a street to him. But that’s exactly what happened on Friday.
The unusual layout of Ware station with a single bidirectional platform and track on an otherwise double track railway creates the potential for head on collisions. Hence, the Northern & Eastern Railway Act 1844 required that the Down Home signal be kept at Danger and not lowered until the Up train had passed.

DWSP controls public access to its water supply lands and waters in the Ware River Watershed through its Public Access Management Plan (PAM). As an unfiltered water supply, MassDEP and EPA require DWSP to manage and limit access to its reservoir lands so that recreational activities do not pose a threat to drinking water quality.
During the 2023 PAM update process, DWSP staff engaged in focused, solution-oriented meetings with user groups to address key access issues in the Ware River Watershed. These collaborative sessions were framed by the watershed management principles that guide public access in the Ware River Watershed (Appendix D) and led to specific, user-group-focused solutions.
Based on the results of stakeholder surveying, DWSP will continue to focus on improving access and communication about access policy. This will include improved signage to better communicate DWSP access policies and to identify recreation activity locations (e.g., trail names). DWSP also will continue to review the current access map and its associated policies.
