How to Get to Parede Portugal by Train
Laid-back, sandy Parede stretches along Avencas and Paraiso beaches overlooked by fine-dining restaurants and terrace bars. It’s the halfway point between electric Lisbon and the enticing Atlantic coast of Cascais, a former vacation retreat for Portuguese royalty.
Getting there is easy—just make sure you have a prepaid Viva Viagem card with you for public transit (or cash)—and use the app to plan your journey. Once you’re at Cais do Sodré, the station for the Lisbon – Cascais line, buy a one-way ticket in a kiosk or on board. If you’re traveling with kids, be sure to grab a kiddie ticket.
A quick train ride west from Lisbon, you’ll find a scenic corner of rural Portugal with vineyard-covered hills, picturesque villages, and farms that grow succulent casca de carvalho melons. Spend a carefree afternoon sipping vinho verde at a romantic old estate or exploring the ruins of a town that may have once ruled northwest Iberia.
The 19th-century palace of Joaquim Bernardo Mendes Mendes, a local businessman who returned from Brazil wealthy, displays Neoclassical hallmarks like a balustrade along the roof and a regal pediment. Or tour the enchanting gardens and whimsical house clad in ivy at Quinta da Aveleda, a vinho verde producer with an indoor bar and outdoor amphitheatre. A little further afield, Magikland offers diverting day out for families with kids up to age 10 or so, with small fairground rides like bumper cars and a Ferris wheel augmented by larger permanent attractions like a log flume and a rollercoaster.
