How to Get to Rede Portugal by Train
The main intercity train company of Portugal, Comboios de Portugal, offers high-speed Alfa Pendular trains that travel up to 135mph (217 kph). These train services are comfortable and modern, with two seat classes to choose from. They offer wifi and have ample space for luggage. They also have the benefit of being pet-friendly, meaning you can bring your dog or cat on your trip to Portugal.
Train tickets can be booked online in advance of your journey. It is highly recommended to do this, as seats can sell out during the summer season – especially on popular routes such as Lisbon-Porto and Sintra-Porto.
Bus services are also available to and from Lisbon, operated by Rede Expressos and Flixbus. Generally speaking, it is cheaper to take the train, as you’ll save on accommodation costs by only booking hotel rooms for one night or two in each city. However, if you have limited time and/or prefer to save money on accommodation, a bus trip may be suitable for you.
Lagos is a fascinating city in the western Algarve, with a delightful historic centre and gorgeous beaches. It lies around 250km from Lisbon, which is Portugal’s vibrant capital. Both train and bus travel is possible between the cities, with a direct train service and an express coach service available. Both options are affordable and offer similar travel times – so it really comes down to your preferences and budget.
